How quickly can I safely increase the distance I run?

Last year, when I got up to around 8 miles, I suddenly developed knee problems (probably runner%26#039;s knee - chondromalacia) that got so bad I stopped running for the season (even after a two-week break, the pain would come back within a mile).

I%26#039;ve looked into shoes, my form, pronation, knee exercises, stretching- but one frequent factor contributing to runner%26#039;s knee is how fast one increases their mileage. However, I can%26#039;t find any sort of remotely authoritative sounding recommendations on how quickly I should increase (preferably something backed by some research, but otherwise at least backed by a doctor or someone with sports-medicine credentials). I%26#039;ve heard stuff between adding several miles a week and %26quot;not more than a 10% increase per week,%26quot; never with any references.

I%26#039;m not looking for %26quot;this worked OK for me,%26quot; I%26#039;m looking for at least slightly authoritative recommendations, if available.

How quickly can I safely increase the distance I run?
The 10% rule is a great rule to follow for avoiding injury. In the source is an article from Runner%26#039;s World about the 10% rule. You hear the 10% guideline a lot because it works!
Reply:everyday increase just that little bit more.
Reply:Your attitude is to be respected, but at the same time it is your down fall. There is no professional adviser that can tell you how much the increasing increments should be. You%26#039;ve got to wise up on your own and learn to judge this for yourself. If you%26#039;re bent on pushing the envelop get ready for pain. If you just want to get a workout there is no dictate that says you should come anywhere close to injury or pain. If it%26#039;s all about the race and victory then you better run smart now more than ever because you don%26#039;t have a promise for tomorrow.

How do I look cute in my school uniform?

I go to an girl%26#039;s school and I am in my last year.

I have to wear this new light grey jumper this year, because I am in a senior year. So I can%26#039;t wear the old cherry red jumper like I used to before. The red jumper made me look younger and brighter along with my navy skirt.

But now, with the new grey jumper, I feel hopeless in it.

I want to ask for tips on how to look better...perhaps I can change my hairstyle or add something to my uniform wear...etc...

I now wear a lght grey jumper, a navy blue skirt, black socks and Dr Martens mary jane shoes.

I also take a Nightmare before christams bag to school.

Though my sis say that I look cool and pretty.

But I still feel hopeless...

Please help me to convince myself...;(

Thank you very much!

An ohl, I am 15 years old if that helps. ;)

Reply:there are couple of things you could try (not all at once though)

1) try wearing headbands, or a pucci type scarf,or other hair accessories.

2) wear jewelry, try a wrist full of bangles, or a chunky ring, or a long necklace, stacked rings, dangly earrings, a cool pin

3) paint your nails

4) wear a long scarf with your sweater

5) layer a polo shirt under your grey sweater, try pink or lavender
Reply:Since you cant control the outfit to much, you will have to pay lots of attention to details like hair accesories, cute hair styles, jewelry and makeup. Small things here and there will make yuo more noticeable and set yuo apart from all the other people.
Reply:don%26#039;t know what to tell ya, i think they should do away with school uniforms they are all tacky, and everyone looks alike.

How do i get rid of foot odor???

Ok, so i%26#039;m female and i have a really bad foot odor. It doesn%26#039;t matter what shoes i wear unless it%26#039;s thongs. New or old. When i%26#039;ve worn them for a few hours they smell.

I don%26#039;t wear socks unless i wear running shoes. Which is a rare thing. Usually it%26#039;s heels or those enclosed ballet style flat shoes.

How do i get rid of this? My partner hates it and it%26#039;s really embarrasing. This is only a thing that has started within the last year or so.

How do i get rid of foot odor???
There are foot powders that you can purchase or foot deodorants.
Reply:try Dr. Oz%26#039;s Tea Soak

Dr. Oz, who is always on Oprah and is amazing, said to soak your feet in tea. Brew up mild iced tea and soak em for about 30 minutes a day. The tannic acid is effective ingredient. They had a girl in the audience who asked that awhile back and had her on that show to talk about results and she said it worked. Give it a try! Good Luck!

Reply:When you come in at night, take off your shoes, and

put some baking soda in them, shaking it around in there.

Leave them overnight, and shake out the extra in the

morning before putting them on.

Also, wash and dry your feet well, powder them with

baking soda, and put on cotton socks overnight. This

will absorb odor, and be gentle on your feet.

Wash again with an antibacterial soap and dry well

before putting on your shoes in the morning.

And bad foot odor may be a telltale; see a doctor

if this keeps going on.
Reply:get arid-xx dry deodorant spray. spray feet n between toes n bottoms everyday. use palmolive dish soap with the aroma smell (it says it on it-its pink) it will help alot! good luck
Reply:I saw the doctor oz foot thing too. I would try it because her roommates said it worked too. Also, to destink your shoes, you can try putting them in plastic ziplocks and freezing them. (I read that it kills some of the bacteria) Also, Target sells disposable shoe liners (with a light scent). Try using those in your shoes. They are pretty cheap and you can wear the shoes at least 5 times before you need to replace them.
Reply:you can make a strong tea solution and soak your feet for 10 minutes 3 times a week. the tannin in the tea will help with the sweating

try washing your feet with Summers Eve Feminine Wash, it is good for %26quot;odors%26quot;

also get a can of Arrid XX Dry spray and spray the bottom of your feet before you ever wear your shoes. Do this everytime you put on a pair of shoes. and the shoes that are stinky...try putting them outside in the sun, and get some Odoban from Walmart and spray them every time you take them off.
Reply:Rub sum lemon on ur foot!Trust me it will help
Reply:Cut them off !

I bought a pair of heels and the bottoom does not have very good grip.?

The last thing i want to to to is fall on my face. Any ideas? IS there something i can but at the store and do my self or would I have to go to a shoe shop?

I bought a pair of heels and the bottoom does not have very good grip.?
go to the beauty supply store or the shoe store and get sandpaper grips to put on the bottom of your shoes. they are not tacky at all and no one will see them.
Reply:Buy a wire brush and scrub the bottoms of the shoe by the ball of your foot.
Reply:Well the homemade trick is to scuff the bottom of the shoes along concrete to give them some texture. This texture will create friction when you walk and prevent slippage. Also, buy some sandpaper with an adhesive backing and cut out a square for the bottom of your shoe. This also creates the friction. I hope I helped!

Wear thicker socks, it%26#039;s squeaking because your feet is getting sweaty... I had the same problem with my converse shoes.

Where is the mildew in my clothes schrank is coming from.?
First--thanks for your time served--I do apperciate it. Deeply. Well--you said %26quot;no dampness%26quot; What are they stored in--trunks?? try smelling the inside of the trunks. Sometimes inside of the trunk has odor and hard to get rid of. Try putting some dryer sheets inside when packing--if you can tolerate that smell. Or air freshening thingies. Not good wording but hope you get the meaning. Good luck
Reply:first of all, thanks from a korean vet, 1956

we had this problem in korea also, its due to the high humidity , [been to germany also] berlin wall thing. 1961

whats a shrank?

try to keep every thing aired out, folded cloths will draw moisture,
Reply:Mildew usually comes from some sort of dampness, Maybe open the closet door and run a fan, one of the small ones to keep air circulating..........GOD BLESS.......AND THANKS.!
